Sonam Wangchuk, the climate activist, is currently in stable condition and fully conscious at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. The hospital confirmed on Thursday that a multidisciplinary team of doctors is overseeing his treatment. There have been no changes in his condition, and his vital signs remain normal. All medical care provided since his transfer from Safdarjung Hospital has been administered with his consent.
According to the hospital, Mr. Wangchuk's treatment is being managed by a specialized team, and he is stable and alert, with vital signs within normal limits. The hospital further stated, "All treatment is being conducted with his consent." On Wednesday, Wangchuk reiterated his demand for assurances that no legal actions would be taken against the protesters as a condition for ending his 25-day hunger strike.
In a video posted on social media, he mentioned that he lost 11 kilograms during his fast. He praised the protesters who participated in the 'Chalo Parliament' march organized by the Cockroach People's Party on July 20, noting their peaceful demeanor despite police intervention. He stated, "I am still alive, and today marks the 25th day of my fast. I have lost 11 kilograms, and there has been a significant reduction in my muscle mass. However, I am okay. I was transferred from Safdarjung Hospital to a private facility in Gurugram yesterday. I commend the students who protested peacefully despite the police crackdown."
Reiterating his demands, the activist mentioned that ministers and opposition leaders had urged him to end his hunger strike and return to serve the nation, presenting a letter signed by 65 MPs. He expressed his willingness to comply, stating, "My work is also important. However, I urge the government not to use force against the children. I seek assurance that no charges or FIRs will be filed against them, which could lead to police or jail threats. If I receive this assurance soon, I can honor your sentiments and end my fast today. But if I do not receive such assurance, regrettably, I will have to continue my hunger strike."
