Sonam, alongside teammates Elavenil Valarivan and Vidarsa Kochalumkal Vinod, secured the silver in the women's 10 m air rifle team event, marking India's first medal at these Games.

A Promising Future Ahead

In an interview following her victory, Rohit Prakash, who coaches at the Vedh Rifle and Pistol Shooting Academy, stated, "Sonam has been with us since 2021, where she began her shooting journey. She consistently excelled in state and national qualifying matches. We encouraged her parents to support her, believing in her potential for a bright future."

Support Amid Financial Struggles

Rohit emphasized that despite their financial constraints, Sonam's father provided significant support, ensuring she had the resources needed to thrive in her sport. As a result, she began participating in junior international competitions while training at the academy.

From Junior Competitions to National Recognition

Sonam's journey included competing in junior international events, where she trained rigorously at the academy. Even during her World Cup silver medal win, she was under Rohit's guidance. Her accomplishments led to her selection for the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Scheme of Excellence, where she now trains with Coach Farooq Thomas, who has been instrumental in her continued success.
