Infiltration Attempt Thwarted in Uri Sector

Srinagar, August 13: A soldier lost his life on Wednesday during an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to officials, the incident took place in the Churunda region of Baramulla district, where troops engaged in a fierce firefight with terrorists attempting to cross the border.

During the exchange of gunfire, one soldier was killed. The Army has initiated a counter-infiltration operation along with a Border Action Team (BAT) mission in the area, and a search operation is currently ongoing.

A comprehensive counter-infiltration effort has been launched to locate the attackers. The firefight was still active at the time of this report, with further updates pending.

In a related development, the prolonged anti-terror operation in the Akhal Devsar forest area of Kulgam district has now reached its 13th day.

This operation is noted as the longest ongoing anti-terror initiative in the Valley.

On the first night of the operation, which began on August 1, one local terrorist was killed, and four soldiers sustained injuries.

Tragically, two of the injured soldiers later succumbed to their wounds, while the remaining injured personnel are receiving medical care.

Officials indicated that the extensive and dense forest terrain may prolong the operation.

Joint forces, comprising the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police, commenced Cordon and Search Operations (CASO) in the area on August 1.

To prevent the escape of the hiding terrorists, the Army has deployed Rudra helicopters, drones, and para commandos.

Security forces are intensifying operations against terrorists in the hinterland, while the Army remains on high alert along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.

The recent elimination of three Pakistani terrorists linked to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in 26 fatalities, is part of the ongoing aggressive operations by the joint forces.

This operation has been designated as 'Operation Mahadev' by the Army.

Following the Pahalgam attack, security forces have escalated anti-terror operations targeting armed terrorists, their associates, and sympathizers.
