Shillong, Sept 3: Starting at 4:30 am on September 4, traffic towards Sohra will be regulated due to the 5th Sohra International Half Marathon, with restrictions in place at Umtyngar Bridge and other key intersections along the route.
The East Khasi Hills traffic department has announced that the marathon will take place from Laitsohpliah to Mawsmai View Point.
Vehicles traveling towards Sohra will be halted and managed at specific points from 4:30 am until the marathon concludes.
According to the notification, the Shillong Traffic Police advises the public to plan their trips to Sohra accordingly, although emergency service vehicles will be permitted to operate.
This year's Sohra International Half Marathon will include a half marathon, a 10-km race, and a 5-km fun run.
The event has seen consistent growth, with 10,550 participants registered in 2025.
Given the increasing number of runners, the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) has set a cap of 11,000 participants for this year.
The marathon is being organized collaboratively by the MSOA, the Meghalaya Athletics Association (MAA), and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
In addition to being certified by World Athletics, the event will also be registered with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
Registration through the MSOA website closed on August 15.
Last year's marathon was inaugurated by Olympic medalist and six-time world boxing champion MC Mary Kom, alongside Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla and local MLA Gavin M Mylliem.
Prize money amounting to around Rs 15.50 lakh was awarded across various categories last year.
