Understanding the Impact of Evil Eye on Children and Remedies
The Vulnerability of Children
Children are inherently delicate, making them susceptible to negative influences, often referred to as the 'evil eye.' This can lead to health issues, loss of appetite, and a shift in their overall demeanor. While some dismiss this as superstition, there are scientific explanations that support these beliefs.
Scientific Perspective on the Evil Eye
At times, our skin pores can become blocked, causing the body to stop responding to external stimuli such as temperature changes. This blockage can lead to an internal buildup of heat and a deficiency of iron, resulting in vision problems and swollen eyelids. The balance of our five elements may also be disrupted, necessitating various methods to open these pores.
Signs of the Evil Eye
According to ancient texts, certain signs indicate that a child may be affected by the evil eye. These include irritability, frequent illnesses, vomiting, changes in eye color, and headaches. Additionally, unnecessary expenses, unexplained crying, spoiled milk, and household misfortunes are also considered indicators.
Remedies to Remove the Evil Eye
1. Fill a copper pot with delicate flowers, sugar, or milk and water, then pass it over the child from head to toe eleven times. Dispose of the contents in a plant pot, avoiding basil.
2. If a child is affected by sweet influences, take sugar in both hands and perform the same ritual. Mix the sugar with water and pour it down the bathroom drain, or mix it with milk and pour it at the base of a peepal tree without looking back.
3. Use salt, mustard seeds, garlic, onion skins, and dried red chilies to perform the ritual seven or twenty-one times over the child, then burn these items on a flame to dispel the negative energy.
4. Visit a Hanuman temple on Saturday and apply vermilion from the deity's shoulder on the child's forehead to alleviate the effects of the evil eye.
5. For breastfeeding infants, burn three small tamarind branches and circle them over the child seven times before extinguishing them with water.
6. If a child loses interest in food, place some food items on a leaf, sprinkle rose water, and leave it on the ground to remove the negative influence.
7. Take a small clay pot, add red chilies, carom seeds, and yellow mustard, light it, and use the smoke to cleanse the child.
8. If a child is fussy about drinking milk, pour milk over them seven times and offer it to a black dog.
9. On Saturday, use a broom or the left shoe of the child to sweep over them seven times in reverse order, then enter the house after sweeping the threshold three times.
10. Use alum and yellow mustard to perform the ritual seven times over the child and dispose of it in the stove. Repeat this in the morning, afternoon, and evening for effective results.
