A Father's Lesson on Worth

An elderly father, confined to his bed, called his daughter to impart an important lesson. He said, “My dear, I have invested all my resources in your education, ensuring you become a knowledgeable individual. Upon my passing, I will leave you no wealth, but I do have one asset left: an old car parked in the corner outside. Before you sell it, take it to the market and see what people are willing to pay for it.”

Following her father's advice, the daughter took the old car to the market. She approached a dealer who assessed the vehicle and offered her ₹50,000, stating it looked quite dated. She returned home to share the news with her father.

Her father then instructed her, “Now, show the car to the owner of the local grocery store and ask him how much he would pay for it.” The daughter complied and returned with the store owner's offer of ₹75,000, given their regular patronage.

Next, the father suggested, “Take the car to a museum in the neighboring city and inquire about their offer.” The daughter did as instructed and learned that the museum curator was very interested in the car, offering ₹1 million due to its historical significance.

Seeing his daughter's excitement, the father remarked, “The right value can only be found in the right place. We should not feel disheartened or angry when we don’t receive the right price; it simply means we are not in the right environment. Those who recognize our worth will appreciate us accordingly. We should focus our time on those who value us.”

This story conveys a clear message: instead of lamenting over those who overlook us, we should cherish the company of those who respect and appreciate us. By surrounding ourselves with such individuals, we can avoid unnecessary heartache.

Moral: Rather than expecting everyone to value us, it is wise to honor those who genuinely appreciate us and to remain in their company. We must not live under the illusion that everyone will recognize our worth simply because we exist.
