Smoke Erupts in Mahalaxmi Express Near Karjat

Thane, July 28 - A smoke incident in one of the coaches of the Mahalaxmi Express, traveling from Kolhapur to Mumbai, caused a momentary scare among passengers near Karjat in Maharashtra's Raigad district on Tuesday morning. According to police reports, the incident occurred approximately 90 kilometers from Mumbai, in the Monkey Hill area of Karjat, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) indicated that the smoke was likely due to a short circuit. Railway officials promptly conducted an inspection of the affected coach, allowing the train to continue its journey afterward. Senior Police Inspector Kiran Matkar from the Karjat GRP confirmed, 'There have been no reports of injuries from this incident.'

Officials noted that the Mahalaxmi Express was scheduled to depart from Karjat station at 5:30 AM, but the incident caused a delay in its departure.

After the necessary checks and actions were taken by the officials, the train finally left at 6:15 AM.
