Guwahati, July 22: Skyroot Aerospace has made history by becoming the first private entity in India to successfully launch a rocket into orbit. The company is now focusing on entering the global satellite launch market with innovative, lightweight launch vehicles and improved payload capabilities.


Founded by former scientists from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Hyderabad, Skyroot achieved this significant milestone on July 18, marking a pivotal moment for India's private space industry. Notably, the mission had an Assam connection, as Guwahati native Ved Prakash, a Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) engineer at Skyroot, played a crucial role in its success.


In an interview, Prakash shared that the company is dedicated to developing more advanced rockets capable of deploying satellites into various orbital paths while enhancing payload capacity to serve a broader spectrum of domestic and international clients.


One of the standout features of Skyroot's technology is its utilization of advanced materials, which significantly reduce the weight of their rockets compared to traditional launch vehicles, all while ensuring the necessary structural integrity for space missions.


Prakash explained, "The rockets are lighter due to the materials used, yet we guarantee they are robust enough to withstand the rigorous conditions of launch." He emphasized the importance of precision and versatility, as different satellites require specific orbital placements based on their intended functions, such as military, communication, and meteorological purposes.


To address the increasing demands of the market, Skyroot is focused on enhancing the payload capacity of its rockets and broadening their operational capabilities.


The company aspires to position itself as a leading global commercial launch provider. Prakash stated, "Our motto is to 'open space for all'. We anticipate receiving launch contracts from international clients and are working to increase the frequency of our rocket launches."


Founded by two ex-ISRO scientists, Skyroot has gained further strength through the mentorship of several retired space experts. The successful launch of its maiden orbital mission is viewed as a major achievement, especially considering that initial launches by private space companies often encounter challenges.


Prakash pointed out that SpaceX, now a dominant player in the private space sector, did not succeed in its first launch attempt, making Skyroot's successful debut even more noteworthy.


As India continues to open its space sector to private enterprises, Skyroot's accomplishment is expected to enhance confidence in the nation's commercial space landscape and enable Indian companies to compete in the rapidly growing global satellite launch arena.
