Maoists Surrender in Jharkhand

Ranchi, July 28 - On Tuesday, a total of 16 Maoists surrendered to the Jharkhand police. Among them, six individuals had bounties totaling ₹39 lakh announced for their capture, as confirmed by a senior police official.

The official noted that one of the surrendering Maoists is Santosh Mahato, also known as Basudev Da or Dilip. He was a member of the banned CPI (Maoist) regional committee and faced 128 criminal cases against him, with a bounty of ₹15 lakh placed on his head.

According to the officer, out of the 16 Maoists, six had bounties amounting to ₹39 lakh. The group included five women, among whom were a regional committee member and a zonal committee member. Additionally, two sub-zonal committee members and two area committee officials from the banned organization were part of the surrender.

The police official stated that the surrender of Santosh Mahato is a significant achievement for the Jharkhand police. He was wanted in various police stations across multiple districts for the 128 cases against him. Mahato was also accused of involvement in an IED explosion that occurred on March 1 in the forest area bordering the Manoharpur, Chotanagpur, and Jaraikela police station regions.

This explosion resulted in injuries to a member of the Cobra Battalion. The officer further mentioned that Chandan Lohra, a zonal committee member of the CPI (Maoist), also surrendered, facing 78 cases with a bounty of ₹10 lakh.

In addition to their surrender, the Maoists handed over six INSAS rifles, two AK-47 rifles, 38 magazines, and 1,562 cartridges to the police.
