Seismic Activity in Gangtok


Gangtok: In the early hours of Friday, residents of Gangtok, Sikkim experienced two consecutive earthquakes measuring 3.6 and 2.7 on the Richter scale, according to local officials.


The first quake, with a magnitude of 3.6, struck at 4:26 AM, located approximately 10.7 kilometers northwest of Gangtok at a shallow depth of 5 kilometers. Shortly after, a second tremor was recorded at 11.2 kilometers west of the city, reaching a depth of 10 kilometers, as reported by the National Centre for Seismology.


Fortunately, officials confirmed that there were no injuries or property damage reported across the Himalayan region.
