Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang of Sikkim has revealed plans to create a vibrant atmosphere for football enthusiasts during the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. This includes the establishment of a Chief Minister's Fan Park at MG Marg in Gangtok, along with extended operating hours for local eateries on the day of the highly anticipated match between Spain and Argentina.


A Celebration of Football Culture

In a statement made prior to the final at the New York New Jersey Stadium, CM Tamang expressed that these initiatives are designed to provide a festive and secure environment for football fans throughout the state. He highlighted Sikkim's strong football heritage, stating, "Football transcends mere sport; it is a passion that brings people together. Our state has a long-standing love for football and has produced many talented players who have brought us pride."


Details of the Fan Park and Safety Measures

To commemorate the event, the Chief Minister's Fan Park will feature a large LED screen for supporters to watch the final live. Additionally, eateries along MG Marg will be permitted to operate until 3:30 AM on July 19, provided they adhere to all relevant laws and safety regulations.


The local Police Department and relevant authorities have been instructed to ensure proper security, traffic management, and crowd control during the event. CM Tamang encouraged the public to participate in the festivities responsibly, stating, "I invite everyone to celebrate this global sporting event with enthusiasm, respect, and civic duty. Let’s enjoy the match, stay safe, and celebrate responsibly."
