Significant Fire Erupts Near UC Riverside, Prompting Emergency Response
Fire Breaks Out at Riverside Apartment Complex
On Friday, a large fire erupted near the University of California, Riverside, generating thick black smoke that filled the sky. Firefighters were dispatched to tackle a third-alarm fire at an apartment complex located on Iowa Avenue. This incident, known as the Iowa Fire, ignited at the intersection of Iowa Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue in Riverside. Authorities confirmed that the blaze was a building fire, not a brush fire, as smoke spread across the vicinity.
The Riverside Fire Department reported that crews arrived at 3996 Iowa Ave, where they encountered intense flames coming from the University Riverside Gardens apartment complex. Footage and photographs from the scene depicted flames consuming the building's roof while firefighters battled to control the fire. Dense black smoke was visible rising above the neighborhood adjacent to UC Riverside.
As of now, it is uncertain if there were any injuries resulting from the fire. Emergency personnel are still active at the site as investigations into the cause of the fire are underway.
