Patna, August 1: A substantial fire broke out on Saturday morning at the office of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Kiran Kumari, situated within the fort complex in Munger district, Bihar. The blaze reportedly resulted in the destruction of numerous vital case files, legal documents, and historical records.

According to staff members at the court, the fire ignited around 9:50 a.m., just before the court was set to open for the day.

Fortunately, no employees or officials were present in the office at that time, and thus, no injuries were reported.

The fire department was promptly notified, and two fire engines arrived at the scene shortly thereafter.

Firefighters worked diligently for nearly an hour to extinguish the flames and bring the situation under control.

The incident caused considerable alarm within the court complex, drawing a crowd of court staff, police officers, and lawyers who rushed to the scene upon hearing about the fire.

Initial reports suggest that a short circuit may have been the cause of the fire.

However, officials are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the precise cause.

The court administration has initiated an assessment of the damage and is compiling a detailed list of the files and documents that were lost in the fire.

A technical review of the electrical wiring and cables is also underway.

Inspectors are evaluating the wiring throughout the court premises to avert similar incidents in other courtrooms, judicial halls, judges’ chambers, cafeterias, and other significant areas in the future.

Authorities are also looking into other potential causes and identifying individuals who were in or near the vicinity at the time of the incident.

While there have been no reported fatalities, the loss of court records has raised concerns regarding the preservation and potential reconstruction of crucial case-related documents.

As a result of this incident, hearings scheduled for today have been postponed, with a new date expected to be announced shortly.
