Significant Changes Ahead for Ram Janmabhoomi Trust Amid Donation Controversy
Upcoming Meetings to Restructure Trust Administration
In light of recent controversies surrounding donation misappropriation, the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust is set to implement major changes in its administrative and financial frameworks. Two crucial meetings are scheduled to take place in Ayodhya on Wednesday. These gatherings will focus on appointing a new General Secretary, filling three vacant trustee positions, and discussing the administrative structure for the temple's inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
According to sources within the Trust, a special meeting will commence at 3 PM in the Ram Temple complex, followed by a regular meeting at 4 PM at the residence of Trust President Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, known as 'Maniram Chhawani'.
Discussion on Trustee Vacancies and New Appointments
The special meeting is expected to address the appointment of a new General Secretary and the filling of three vacancies resulting from the resignations of Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra, as well as the passing of trustee Bimalendra Mohan Pratap Mishra.
Sources indicate that the agenda will also include discussions on the newly established CEO position and its administrative framework.
Focus on Financial Transparency and Security Measures
The second session is anticipated to concentrate on enhancing financial transparency, which will involve counting donations, managing contributions, and strengthening oversight of the Trust's financial transactions.
Additionally, the meeting will likely cover security arrangements, issuance of VIP, accessibility, and Aarti passes, along with other administrative matters.
Most trustees are reported to have arrived in Ayodhya by Tuesday, while some members are expected to participate online from Delhi and Lucknow.
CEO Position Applications and Selection Process
The Trust had invited applications for the CEO position until July 18. Media reports suggest that between 2,500 to 5,500 applications were received, although no official figures have been released.
Sources involved in the selection process noted that the response was 'overwhelming', with applications reportedly coming from numerous retired IAS and IPS officers, senior bureaucrats, and professionals.
Expert Committee to Evaluate Applications
There are speculations that the Trust may grant additional time to a three-member expert committee to review the large volume of applications before finalizing the shortlist.
This committee, tasked with evaluating applications and recommending suitable candidates, includes retired Justice Pramod Kohli, retired Lieutenant General Vishnukant Chaturvedi, and former NIT Raipur Chairman Suresh Haware. The final appointment will be made by the Trust.
Strengthening Financial Oversight and Accountability
The CEO role has been created as part of a broader administrative overhaul aimed at enhancing financial oversight, improving institutional accountability, and streamlining the temple's daily operations.
Nripendra Mishra, Chairman of the Ram Temple Construction Committee, previously stated that the CEO's primary responsibility will be to maintain the trust of devotees while overseeing financial arrangements and pilgrim facilities, ensuring no government interference in the Trust's operations.
Confirmation of Previous Meeting Proceedings
The meetings on Wednesday will also formally confirm the proceedings from the July 6 meeting, during which the Trust recommended amendments to the Trust Deed and established a committee to create guidelines for the responsibility, evaluation, and disposal of offerings.
Under the Trust Deed, vacancies among the 11 permanent trustees can be filled through a majority proposal passed in a specially convened meeting.
No Changes to Reserved Seats Amid Controversy
However, the reserved seat for the Nirmohi Akhara in Ayodhya, currently represented by Mahant Dinendra Das, cannot be altered as it was established under the directives of the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Mahant Dinendra Das dismissed reports on Tuesday claiming he had been removed from his position in the Nirmohi Akhara.
Addressing a press conference in Ayodhya, he asserted that 13 out of the 19 Panchs of the Akhara supported him, alleging that some members were conspiring against him.
Ongoing Investigation into Alleged Donation Misappropriation
The meetings are taking place amid allegations of donation misappropriation at the Ram Temple. The Uttar Pradesh government established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on June 13 to probe these claims.
Following the submission of an initial SIT report on June 23, an FIR was registered on June 25, leading to the arrest of eight accused individuals, including Avinash Shukla, Anukalp Mishra, and others. Police have recovered cash from several of the accused.
