On Sunday night, the commission dispatched a letter to the state government, appointing Dushyant Nariala as the new Chief Secretary of West Bengal.

New Appointments and Directives

The letter sent to the state government also instructed the appointment of Sanghamitra Ghosh as the Principal Secretary for Home and Hill Affairs. The Election Commission made it clear that officials who have been transferred will not be assigned to any election-related positions until the elections are concluded. This decision was reached after a thorough review of the election preparations in the state. The commission has mandated that these directives be implemented immediately, with a compliance report regarding the appointments to be submitted by 3 PM on Monday.

Dushyant Nariala is a seasoned and senior officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), recognized for his efficiency and strictness within West Bengal's administrative system. Born on June 2, 1967, in Haryana, he is a 1993 batch IAS officer from the West Bengal cadre, holding degrees in Science (B.Sc.) and Law (LL.B.).

Throughout his career, Nariala has held various significant positions in both state and central governments. Prior to his appointment as Chief Secretary, he served as the Additional Chief Secretary in the North Bengal Development Department and also held additional responsibilities as the Principal Secretary of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA). His experience includes roles in disaster management, civil safety, school education, and personnel administration. He has also served as the District Magistrate in challenging districts such as West and East Medinipur and worked as a Senior Deputy Director at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie, where he was involved in training IAS officers.
