A Cascade of Records for Gill

Gill's innings of 208 runs off 149 balls included the fastest ODI double century, reached in just 117 balls, featuring 24 fours and seven sixes. He finished the chase unbeaten at 223 runs from 133 balls, with a total of 26 fours and eight sixes, boasting a strike rate exceeding 167. This score ranks as the third-highest in ODI history, following Rohit Sharma's 264 and Martin Guptill's 237*.

He surpassed Ishan Kishan's previous record of a 126-ball double century against Bangladesh in 2022. With this achievement, Gill now stands alongside Rohit Sharma as the only players with multiple double tons in ODIs.

Highest Score in a Chase

Gill's achievement also makes him the second player, after Glenn Maxwell, to score a double century while chasing in ODIs. Maxwell's 201 not out against Afghanistan in 2023 was previously the benchmark. Gill's score now holds the record for the highest individual score in an ODI chase.

New Records as Captain

Gill has become the first cricketer to score a double century while captaining in both Tests and ODIs, having previously scored 269 against England in a Test match at Edgbaston last year. He also broke Virender Sehwag's record of 219 runs against the West Indies in 2011, setting the highest ODI score by an Indian captain.

Fastest to the Milestones

He reached his second consecutive century of the series and third ODI ton on home soil in just 62 balls, breaking Rohit Sharma's record for the fastest century by an Indian captain. Rohit had scored a 63-ball century against Afghanistan during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. However, the record for the fastest ODI century by an Indian remains with Virat Kohli, who achieved a 52-ball century against Australia in 2013.

Gill also reached the 150-run mark in just 89 balls, the fastest by an Indian in ODIs.
