On Sunday, in the national capital, Shubman Gill expressed his heartfelt appreciation after receiving the Polly Umrigar Award for Best International Cricketer (Men) for the 2024-25 season during the BCCI Naman Awards 2026. The prominent Indian cricketer, who captains both the ODI and Test teams, acknowledged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and emphasized that being honored with the Polly Umrigar Award is a significant privilege, especially considering the legends who have previously received it. He attributed India's cricketing success last year to the team's collective efforts and extended his gratitude to his teammates, parents, and family for their unwavering support throughout his career.
'A Great Honour'
"First and foremost, I want to thank the BCCI. Many greats and legends have been recipients of this award, making it a tremendous honor to be here. The achievements we accomplished last year as a unit in Indian cricket have been remarkable. Securing five ICC trophies is unprecedented. I also want to express my gratitude to my teammates; without their support, none of this would have been achievable. Additionally, I thank my parents and family members who have played a crucial role in my journey," Gill stated in a video shared by a sports media channel on X.
Gill's Stellar 2025 Season
Shubman Gill had a remarkable year in 2025, particularly excelling in Test cricket. During India's tour of England, he showcased his skills in the five-Test series, finishing as the top run-scorer for India with 754 runs across 10 innings, boasting an impressive average of 75.40. His performance included four centuries, with a personal best of 269 runs. Furthermore, he was recognized as the highest run-scorer globally for the year 2025, accumulating 983 runs in nine matches at an average of 70.21.
Impact in the Champions Trophy
The 26-year-old cricketer also played a pivotal role in India's victorious Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. He scored an unbeaten 101 runs against Bangladesh in the tournament's opening match and concluded the event with a total of 188 runs at an average of 47, making him India's third-highest run-scorer.
