Shubman Gill Praises Hardik Pandya

India's captain, Shubman Gill, has underscored the significance of Hardik Pandya to the national team, referring to him as a unique all-rounder. Gill noted that Pandya's dual capability to excel with both bat and ball makes him an essential player. He specifically pointed out Pandya's adaptability as a fast-bowling all-rounder, who can effectively bowl at various stages of the game, including the new ball, middle overs, and during crucial moments. Gill expressed his disappointment regarding Pandya's extended absence since the IPL 2026, mentioning that the team management has been in consistent contact with him. He remains optimistic about Pandya's recovery, hoping he can participate in domestic matches and subsequently return to the national squad soon. Gill made these remarks to reporters ahead of India's first ODI against New Zealand in Auckland on Tuesday.

Injury Challenges and Squad Management

Pandya's comeback to competitive cricket faced another hurdle due to a shin injury, which prevented him from participating in the three-match ODI series against Australia A in October. He had been included in the India A squad for the 50-over matches starting October 6 in Puducherry, pending fitness approval. However, he was advised to take a 15-day rest following the injury.
