Shreyas Iyer Emphasizes Flexibility Ahead of T20I Series Against New Zealand
Shreyas Iyer's Stance on Batting Order
Before the inaugural T20I match against New Zealand in Christchurch, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer expressed his readiness to bat in any position. He mentioned that he does not plan to push himself to the top of the order, especially with strong openers like Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, along with Ishan Kishan at number three.
Importance of the Upcoming Series
The five-match T20I series kicks off on Thursday, marking a significant opportunity for Shreyas to prove himself both as a captain and a batsman. He has faced challenges in recent performances, making this series crucial for his career.
'Flexibility is Key': Shreyas on Batting Roles
In a press conference, Shreyas highlighted the necessity for players to adapt their batting positions based on game situations. He stated, "I believe flexibility is essential. There are many batters who may not perform well lower down the order. I can bat anywhere, depending on the match context. For instance, during the last World Cup, Ishan batted at three and is currently the top T20I batter globally. Therefore, I don't see the need to push for the top spot. Everyone in the team should be content with their assigned batting order."
