Shreyas Iyer Aims for Fastest Indian ODI Record

As the Indian cricket team prepares for the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara this Sunday, captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer are on the verge of achieving remarkable personal records in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Shreyas Iyer is just 83 runs shy of reaching 3,000 ODI runs, having played 67 innings to date. If he accomplishes this feat during the series, he will set a new record as the fastest Indian to reach 3,000 runs in ODIs, surpassing Shikhar Dhawan, who achieved it in 72 innings. Should Iyer hit this milestone in the opening match, he would also tie with Pakistan's Babar Azam as the joint third-fastest player overall to reach 3,000 ODI runs, while South African legend Hashim Amla holds the record with 57 innings.

Shubman Gill Approaches 3,000 ODI Runs

Captain Shubman Gill is also nearing the 3,000-run mark, needing just 182 runs to achieve this milestone. With 58 innings under his belt, if he reaches this landmark during the New Zealand series, he will become the fastest Indian to do so in terms of both innings and matches. Globally, he would rank as the second-fastest player to reach 3,000 runs, trailing only Hashim Amla.

Virat Kohli Approaches 28,000 International Runs

Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli is just 25 runs away from becoming the third player in history to score 28,000 international runs, joining the ranks of Sachin Tendulkar and former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara. Furthermore, Kohli needs only 42 more runs to surpass Sangakkara's total of 28,016 runs, which would make him the second-highest run-scorer of all time across all formats.
