Shreyanka Patil's Injury Forces Her Out of the Tournament

In a significant setback for the Indian women's cricket team, Shreyanka Patil has been sidelined for the remainder of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 due to an injury. The off-spinner suffered an ankle injury while fielding during her first over in the Group A match against the Netherlands on Wednesday, as reported by the ICC. Following the incident, Patil was taken off the field on a stretcher and will not participate further in the tournament.

Prema Rawat Named as Replacement

The Event Technical Committee for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 has officially approved leg-spinner Prema Rawat as Patil's replacement in the Indian squad. Rawat, who was already in England with the India A team, will now join the senior team for the remainder of the World Cup.

"The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 has confirmed Prema Rawat as a replacement for Shreyanka Patil in the India squad," stated the ICC media release.

"Rawat's inclusion follows Patil's injury to her right ankle sustained while fielding against the Netherlands. Any player replacement must receive approval from the Event Technical Committee before being officially added to the squad," the statement further explained.

Promising Talent

At just 24 years old, Rawat has yet to make her international debut but has demonstrated her potential through impressive performances in the Women's Premier League and the Women's Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament. She notably took eight wickets at an outstanding average of 9.62 while playing for India A in the competition.

Patil had recently made her return to international cricket after recovering from a previous injury and contributed to India's victory over Pakistan, where she bowled three economical overs, conceding only 17 runs without claiming a wicket.
