Jorhat, May 3: The filming of the Assamese movie Barood-2 is currently in progress in Jorhat, capturing attention for its connection to the cultural legacy of Assam's renowned figure, Zubeen Garg.
Under the direction of Manas Baruah, the son of the late filmmaker Munin Baruah, this sequel continues the story established in the 2004 film Barood, with Garg's previous musical contributions significantly influencing its soundtrack.
Garima Saikia Garg, Zubeen's wife and the film's costume designer, shared insights about the project alongside director Baruah.
She mentioned that Garg was originally intended to oversee the music direction for Barood-2, maintaining his role from the first film.
“The original Barood was directed by Bhaimon da, and Zubeen was responsible for the music. He was also set to direct the music for this sequel. We had discussions about it on September 12,” she explained.
Garima noted that Garg was expected to be actively involved in the film starting November 2025, after completing his project Roi Roi Binale, with several discussions already taking place.
“Zubeen was supposed to manage the music while I focused on costume designs. Sadly, we couldn't collaborate on this,” she added.
Nonetheless, the film will incorporate aspects of Garg's original artistic vision. A song from the first film, Puju Aha, which he composed and wrote, will be featured in the sequel, albeit sung by a different artist.
“The composition and lyrics will remain true to Zubeen's creation. I aim to honor his wishes, dreams, and works,” Garima stated.
Director Baruah expressed that the sequel intends to advance the narrative while adding new dimensions.
“We are currently in Jorhat for a 10-day shooting schedule, having already completed about 11 days of filming in Guwahati,” he mentioned.
“The main cast will include Jatin Bora and Ravi Sharma, and we have introduced several new characters to continue the previous storyline. There will be unexpected developments, and we hope the audience enjoys it,” Baruah added.
The film is anticipated to be released in theaters between January and March 2027, representing a new chapter for the Barood franchise while preserving the lasting impact of Garg's creative legacy.
The production team is expected to return to Guwahati for the next filming phase.
