Shooting Incident Involving Attorneys Outside Wake County Courthouse
Shooting Outside Courthouse in Raleigh
On Friday morning, two lawyers from Fox Rothschild, representing the Town of Rolesville, were shot outside the historic Wake County Courthouse in downtown Raleigh. This incident occurred shortly after 10:30 AM, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement, including the Raleigh Police Department, Wake County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Protective Service.
According to Raleigh Police Chief Rico Boyce, the victims—a male and a female attorney—were involved in a civil lawsuit linked to the Rolesville Police Department. Court documents indicate that the attorneys were representing the police department in a case concerning body camera footage from four years ago.
Authorities reported that the shooter, a woman associated with the same case, exhibited aggressive behavior inside the courthouse before exiting. She then returned to her vehicle, retrieved a firearm, and opened fire on the attorneys as they left the building.
The suspect was apprehended at the scene by police. Investigators have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, although the identity of the suspect and the motive behind the shooting have not yet been disclosed. One of the victim's fathers informed local media that his daughter was undergoing surgery and requested that her name remain confidential.
The Town of Rolesville expressed its shock and concern over the shooting, labeling it as “deeply disturbing.” In the aftermath of the incident, all Wake County courthouses were closed for the day as investigations continued, and security measures were heightened in several downtown Raleigh buildings.
