Shooting Incident at Toledo's Old West End Festival

Authorities reported that a shooting occurred near a street festival in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday, injuring at least 12 individuals. The incident unfolded close to the Old West End Festival, a two-day annual celebration in one of Toledo's historic districts, featuring live music, food stalls, shopping, and home tours. Victims of the shooting ranged in age from 14 to 61, with two individuals listed in critical condition.

Toledo's Deputy Police Chief, Joe Heffernan, indicated that investigators suspect at least two shooters may have exchanged gunfire. As of Saturday evening, no arrests had been made. Lieutenant Dan Gerken noted that most of the injured appeared to be young adults, estimating their average age to be in the early 20s.

Detectives are in the preliminary stages of a complex investigation, interviewing victims and witnesses while also reviewing video footage from the scene. Gerken stated, "It's real early in the investigation. We're talking to multiple people, including victims and witnesses. We're viewing camera footage." He refrained from disclosing details about potential suspects, emphasizing that investigators are still gathering evidence to clarify the events that transpired.

Authorities have urged anyone with photographs, videos, or information related to the shooting to reach out to the police. Gerken remarked, "The main thing is, if you have information, you send it to the police department so we can follow up on it." When asked if any of the injured might have been involved in the shooting, he expressed skepticism based on the current information available.

Police are also working to piece together the timeline leading up to the gunfire and the positions of those responsible in relation to the festival crowd. Gerken mentioned that detectives had recently acquired video evidence and were in the process of analyzing it. "We are at the mercy of the evidence and the video that we're collecting," he added. Despite the seriousness of the incident, Gerken expressed optimism about the investigation's progress, highlighting the need for public cooperation. "Talk to your kids," he advised. "There's kids out there that probably know more than all of us standing here." The investigation is ongoing.
