Shocking Murder of Elderly Woman in Lucknow: Police Arrest Suspects
Murder Investigation in Lucknow
Lucknow has been shaken by a shocking incident in the Mahanagar police jurisdiction. An elderly woman was found murdered in a lane of Nishatganj. The police have identified the victim's daughter-in-law and her lover as the main suspects. Both individuals are currently in custody as investigations proceed.
The victim has been identified as 69-year-old Nirmala Devi, who had been living with her son and daughter-in-law since her husband's passing nearly two years ago. On Saturday afternoon, around 4 PM, her grandson returned home to discover his grandmother lifeless in her room, with her hands and feet bound. He immediately alerted the authorities.
Upon arrival, the police began their investigation, which initially appeared suspicious. At the time, the victim's son was away at work, leaving only the daughter-in-law and her younger daughter at home. The daughter-in-law's unusual behavior raised red flags, prompting the police to detain her for questioning. During the investigation, it was revealed that the CCTV camera in the house had been turned off between 2 PM and 4 PM.
Subsequently, the police reviewed footage from nearby CCTV cameras, which showed a tenant, Rajan Sharma, exiting the house. No other outsiders were seen entering or leaving during that time. The camera resumed recording after the incident, intensifying suspicions.
Given the seriousness of the case, forensic teams and a dog squad were called in. The search dog led the police to Rajan Sharma, who was standing a short distance from the crime scene. This proved to be a crucial lead. When questioned rigorously, Rajan confessed to the crime.
It emerged that Rajan Sharma had an illicit relationship with the victim's daughter-in-law, Ranjana, which was opposed by family members. They had been caught in compromising situations multiple times, and Nirmala Devi had been vocal against their relationship, leading to escalating tensions between the couple. Consequently, they conspired to murder her.
On Saturday, while the male members of the household were away, Ranjana and Rajan strangled Nirmala Devi and left her body in the room. Following the murder, Rajan's behavior was particularly alarming; he remained nearby and monitored police activities.
He pretended to assist the police in their investigation while discussing the capture of the culprits. However, when the police dog approached him, he became anxious and attempted to shoo it away.
