Shocking Murder in Datia: Former Corporator Gunned Down
Tragic Incident in Datia
Datia, March 31: A shocking event has rocked the city of Datia, where a man named Kallu Kushwaha was shot dead by unknown assailants on Tuesday morning at Sevda Chungi, also referred to as Chhota Bus Stand, within the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines Police Station.
While some reports suggest he was affiliated with the BJP as a corporator, this has not been confirmed by either the party or law enforcement.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 9:00 AM. Kushwaha was on his way home after attending prayers at a nearby Hanuman Temple when 5 to 6 attackers, who had been lying in wait, surrounded him and opened fire indiscriminately. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died instantly.
Following the attack, the assailants threatened witnesses before escaping on motorcycles.
This brazen act of violence in a crowded area during the morning has instilled fear among local residents.
Witnesses reported that Kushwaha's body remained on the street for nearly thirty minutes before police arrived, despite a nearby police outpost.
This delay has raised concerns and anger regarding security measures in the vicinity. In response to the incident, Kushwaha's family and community members protested at the Kotwali police station, demanding the arrest of the perpetrators.
The police managed to calm the protesters, assuring them that the suspects would be apprehended swiftly and that strict measures would be taken.
Authorities suspect that the motive behind the murder may stem from an old feud. However, they have not yet clarified the number of assailants involved. "The investigation is ongoing," stated police officials. Sources indicate that Kushwaha had a criminal background, having been previously convicted in a murder case and released on bail four months ago. Some reports suggest he was out for a morning walk when the attack took place.
A police representative mentioned that while the exact motive remains unclear, initial investigations point towards personal rivalry as a potential cause. A manhunt is currently underway, with senior officers promising that the culprits will be caught soon.
Police officials confirmed, "We have filed a case and are exploring all angles, including past enmities. The suspects will not evade capture. We are reviewing CCTV footage and gathering information from the area."
It is noteworthy that the Datia court had previously sentenced six individuals, including Kallu Kushwaha, to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of former councillor Bal Kishan Kushwaha. Kallu Kushwaha had been granted bail from the High Court just four months ago.
This murder coincides with the Datia police's recent initiative to enhance patrols in both urban and rural areas, which began on March 30, resulting in the arrest of 66 absconders, including 10 individuals with permanent warrants.
The incident raises significant concerns regarding the increasing criminal activities and the effectiveness of law enforcement in smaller towns across Madhya Pradesh. Further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
