Murder Investigation Unfolds in Kanpur

In a disturbing incident from Kanpur, a cab driver named Harsh has been arrested for the murder of his second wife, Moni. The police discovered her body stuffed in a box and discarded by the roadside, thanks to the assistance of a QR code from an alcohol purchase and surveillance footage.

The body, identified as 30-year-old Moni Verma from Amethi, was found on April 15 near Kalyanpur village along the Prayagraj-Kanpur highway. Following the investigation, authorities apprehended Harsh Khiyani, also known as Bittu, and his accomplice Yash Gupta from Yashodhan Nagar.

Both suspects were presented in court on Monday and subsequently remanded to jail. It is alleged that Harsh strangled Moni before disposing of her body with Yash's help. SP Satyanarayan Prajapati confirmed that the police initially registered a murder case against unknown individuals after the body was discovered.

Police teams, including the local station, SOG, and surveillance units, were deployed to solve the case. On Monday, acting on a tip-off, they arrested Harsh and Yash near Khozharapur village while they were in a car. During questioning, they confessed to the crime, revealing that Moni was Harsh's second wife.

Moni, who worked for an NGO, had been pressuring Harsh to take her home. After secretly marrying her three years ago, he had kept her in a rented room in Sharda Nagar while living with his first wife and family in Dabouli. Harsh reportedly grew frustrated with Moni's demands.

In addition to the suspects, police seized the car and four mobile phones. Following their lead, they recovered Moni's handbag, which contained two mobile phones, an Aadhaar card, a driving license, a PAN card, and a health card.

Details of the murder revealed that on April 15, Harsh purchased a box, a knife, and plastic sheets from the market. He then killed Moni by strangling her with her own dupatta while she was lying on the bed. After placing her body in the box, he called Yash, enticing him with money to assist in the disposal.

They transported the body in the car towards Prayagraj, discarding it by the highway near Kalyanpur village. To conceal their identities, they also threw Moni's handbag into the bushes.

When the police found the body, it had a QR code from an alcohol purchase attached to it, which led investigators to a shop near the Namak Factory intersection. Following this lead, the police set up surveillance and eventually apprehended Harsh and Yash during a vehicle check.
