Bengaluru/Bhubaneswar: A recent government initiative mandating the cleaning of vacant lots has led to the resolution of a murder case in Bengaluru's MS Nagar Agrahara Layout. Authorities reported that a man allegedly murdered his wife and concealed her body in an abandoned area.

The suspect, Sagar Chandra Rawat, aged 32, and his wife Anusuya, 28, both originally from Odisha, had a romantic relationship that culminated in marriage. They were employed at separate hotels in Bengaluru.

Police investigations revealed that the couple had a fierce argument regarding financial issues on August 11. During this dispute, Rawat is accused of strangling Anusuya to death. He reportedly kept her body in their home for three days before wrapping it in a mattress and discarding it at a vacant site.

The body was discovered when the owner of the site arranged for workers to clean the area, as per the new government regulations.

Upon inspection, workers stumbled upon the decomposed remains of a woman, which had reportedly been partially consumed by stray dogs.

Sanitation workers, while cleaning the plot on September 2, noticed a mattress tied with ropes. The unpleasant odor prompted them to notify the police.

Upon opening the mattress, officers found the decayed body.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition, identifying the victim initially posed a challenge for the police. However, a clothing tag from a mall was located on the body.

Using the information from the tag and an associated bill, investigators were able to establish the victim's identity.

Authorities noted that the couple frequently argued over financial matters. On the day of the incident, Anusuya had confronted Rawat at his workplace regarding his salary, which led to a continuation of their argument at home, culminating in the tragic event.

Following a thorough investigation, police apprehended Rawat nearly 20 days after the murder, and the inquiry is still ongoing.
