Authorities are investigating a significant racket involving illegal kidney transplants and trafficking linked to Medlife Hospital in Ambedkar Puram.

On Monday afternoon, police acted on a tip-off, leading to preliminary investigations that revealed alarming details. As a result, four individuals, including hospital operators and brokers, have been detained for questioning. Raids are currently being conducted throughout the city and surrounding areas.

Sources indicate that a broker named Shivam allegedly facilitated the admission of a patient suffering from kidney failure to Medlife Hospital, where a secret surgery was purportedly performed at Ahuja Medical Centre in Keshavpuram.

This situation is particularly troubling, as only one private hospital in Kanpur is legally authorized to perform kidney transplants.

A pressing question remains: What is the origin of the kidney? Authorities suspect that this case may extend beyond illegal transplants to include kidney theft and a trafficking network spanning multiple districts.

During the investigation, a patient named Ayush from Meerut claimed that a relative had donated the kidney. However, a young man, who allegedly acted as the donor, later revealed on camera that he sold his kidney for Rs 4 lakh but had yet to receive the promised payment.

The individual identified himself as a final-year MBA student. Alarmingly, it appears that critical medical documentation, official permissions, and legal protocols were ignored during the transplant process.

As developments unfolded, police reportedly relocated the donor late at night, while the female recipient was transferred from Priya Hospital to another medical facility.

Officials from the Health Department and police have not yet released formal statements, but their cautious responses indicate the seriousness and potential scale of the case.
