Authorities revealed that the incident happened around 11:15 PM as the woman was returning home to Ghatkopar from South Mumbai.


Background of the Victim

According to police reports, the victim's husband is an officer in the Navy and has yet to receive government housing, leading him to reside in a naval residential complex while the woman lives in Ghatkopar. As per news sources, the incident unfolded after the couple had dinner at a restaurant in South Mumbai, where her husband booked the Uber cab for her.


Details of the Incident

In her complaint, the woman informed the police that after a typical 25-minute journey, the driver unexpectedly took a different route and picked up two additional men in the cab. She reported that one of the men, who sat right next to her in the back seat, inappropriately touched her. When she yelled at him, he began to threaten her, while the cab driver failed to intervene.


Escape of the Accused

The complainant stated that as they drove further, the accused noticed a police checkpoint on the highway. Immediately, both male passengers exited the cab and fled the scene. Eventually, the driver dropped the woman off at her home. When she questioned him about allowing two strangers into the cab, he offered no explanation.


Filing the Complaint

The following morning, the woman recounted the entire incident to her husband, prompting the couple to file a complaint at the Ghatkopar police station. Charges have been filed against the three suspects under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 75(1) (sexual harassment), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention), with the investigation currently underway.
