Shocking Incident: Man Joins Gujarat High Court Hearing from Toilet
Unusual Online Court Appearance
During an online hearing at the Gujarat High Court, a video surfaced on Friday showing a man allegedly participating from a toilet seat. This unusual event took place on June 20 while Justice Neeraj S. Desai was presiding over a case.
In the footage, a man dressed in a yellow T-shirt logged in via his mobile phone, with the name 'Samad Battery' displayed on the screen. What was particularly shocking was that he appeared to be seated on a toilet while joining the proceedings through the video link.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Gujarat High Court has allowed both lawyers and litigants to participate in hearings online, with each session being broadcast live on the court's YouTube channel. The brief video, lasting about a minute, shows the individual placing his mobile phone on the toilet floor, with the camera directed towards him.
After finishing his business in the restroom, the man picked up his phone and left. It seems that Justice Desai did not notice the background during the hearing. Later, the same individual logged in again wearing earphones, this time appearing to wait in a room for his turn. Approximately ten minutes later, Justice Desai called out his name, to which he responded as Abdul Samad, a resident of Kim village in Surat and the complainant in a case of assault.
