Disturbing Crime in Jammu's Poonch District

Jammu: Authorities in Poonch district have apprehended two individuals on Wednesday in connection with the alleged rape of a seventh-grade student.

Reports indicate that the victim was reportedly assaulted by a taxi driver and his accomplice in the Poonch area.

An official stated, "Both suspects have been detained and charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which include gang rape, kidnapping, and wrongful confinement, in addition to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act."

The incident came to light after the girl's father lodged a complaint at the Gursai police station on Wednesday afternoon, asserting that his daughter had taken a taxi driven by Zahoor Mushtaq, also known as Sonu, who, along with his friend Mohd Irfan, took her to his residence on September 6.

According to the allegations, the suspects held the girl captive for three days and subjected her to repeated sexual assaults. The police acted promptly, arresting both individuals, and further inquiries are ongoing.

This tragic event has sparked outrage, sorrow, and fear among residents of the border district.

The community is still reeling from a recent incident in Kishtwar district, where a 15-year-old girl was raped by a school teacher in the Chatroo region.

Tragically, the girl lost her life due to complications from an illegal abortion attempted by unqualified individuals. Authorities in Kishtwar have already detained seven suspects linked to this horrific crime, and the investigation has been handed over to the Crime Branch.

The Crime Branch has since arrested a tenth suspect in the case following the transfer of this high-profile investigation from local law enforcement.

Investigations have uncovered that the school teacher, Khalid Hussain, had been sexually abusing the minor for several months, resulting in her pregnancy. Hussain and his brother, Tariq Hussain, allegedly plotted to administer drugs to terminate the pregnancy, which ultimately led to the victim's tragic death.
