NCW Responds to Disturbing Incident in Jamui

New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken notice of a troubling incident involving the public molestation and harassment of a teenage girl and her male friend in Jamui, Bihar.

This action follows reports that on the evening of September 19, a group of men confronted the young couple returning from their coaching classes. They were encircled, interrogated, and subjected to both assault and molestation before being allowed to leave. A video capturing the incident has since gained widespread attention online.

In a statement shared on X, the NCW confirmed, "The National Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognizance of an incident in Jamui district of Bihar involving alleged public molestation, assault, forcible stopping, and harassment of a teenage girl and her male companion."

According to various media reports and the circulated footage, the couple was approached by several individuals who surrounded them, with the young woman being grabbed and pulled, while her companion was also assaulted.

Vijaya Rahatkar, the Chairperson of the NCW, has reached out to the Director General of Police in Bihar, urging the immediate filing of a First Information Report (FIR) and the identification and apprehension of all involved.

The commission has mandated that the victims receive security, legal support, and psychological counseling, in addition to taking necessary legal measures to prevent the further dissemination of the objectionable video on social media.

Furthermore, the NCW has requested a comprehensive Action Taken Report (ATR) within a week.

The commission emphasized, "Any compromise on the dignity, safety, and privacy of women is unacceptable at any level."
