Wedding Season Brings Unwanted Demands

Currently, the wedding season is in full swing, and it's common to encounter wedding processions or marriage halls. However, these events often turn into negotiations between the families of the bride and groom, involving substantial monetary exchanges. In India, many parents view their daughters as a burden, which leads to unreasonable demands from the groom's side. If the bride's family can afford it, they comply; otherwise, they face societal humiliation.

A recent incident in Agra illustrates this issue vividly. During a wedding ceremony, the groom's family made an outrageous demand that left the bride's father in disbelief.

The Shocking Demand

The father, who had worked tirelessly to provide for his daughter, was devastated when the groom's family asked for a luxury vehicle worth 35 lakh after the wedding rituals had already begun. Despite having already spent a significant amount on the wedding, he expressed his inability to meet this new demand. The groom's family, however, remained adamant, threatening to leave with their procession if their demands were not met. In desperation, the bride's family called the police, but no resolution was achieved.

The situation escalated to a community council, which ruled that the groom's family must return all expenses incurred by the bride's family. However, they delayed the process and even filed a police complaint against the bride's family.

Seeking Justice

Upon learning of the situation, the bride's family filed a case against the groom's family. The police took action, launching an investigation into the matter. The bride's father expressed his hope for justice, stating, 'Those responsible should face consequences to prevent such incidents from happening to other daughters. I am grateful that my daughter was spared from the greed of dowry seekers.'
