Unusual Divorce Request in Ghaziabad

In Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, a troubling incident has emerged where a woman has filed for divorce after 11 years of marriage. Her husband, a mechanical engineer, has expressed a desire to undergo a gender transition to become a woman. He has even started taking medication to facilitate this change, adopting feminine attire and makeup. Furthermore, he has altered his name on his Aadhaar card to reflect his new identity. Despite attempts by family members to persuade him otherwise, he remained resolute, prompting his wife to seek a divorce.

As the situation escalated, the couple mutually agreed to file for divorce in family court. A decision on their application is expected later this month. The engineer has reportedly agreed to pay his wife 1.8 million rupees as part of their settlement. According to their lawyer, Shabnam Khan, the case is currently pending in court. The wife recounted her initial reaction, believing her husband's behavior was a joke.

However, as he continued to wear sarees and apply makeup daily, she confronted him about his actions. He explained that he intended to dress as a woman permanently, leaving her in shock. Despite her attempts to reason with him, he insisted on being recognized as a woman. After discussing the matter with her family, who also tried to intervene, the husband remained firm in his decision, leading her to pursue divorce.

Initially, the husband was reluctant to agree to the divorce, but eventually, he consented. Both parties have submitted their divorce application to the court. It is noteworthy that the couple married in 2013 and welcomed a son in 2017. Their marital life was reportedly stable until 2021 when his behavior changed after returning from Bangalore.
