Kolkata: A horrifying event unfolded in Basanti, located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, where a man brutally murdered his sister-in-law by decapitating her with a sharp object on Saturday morning. Following the act, he was seen wandering the streets with her severed head and the bloody weapon in hand.

After some time, he entered the Basanti Police Station and surrendered to the authorities. The police quickly detained him and are currently investigating the motives behind this shocking crime.

The perpetrator has been named as Bimal Mondal, while the victim is identified as Sati Mondal, who was married to Bimal's elder brother.

According to a police official, "We suspect that a family dispute may have triggered this horrific act. He displayed no signs of remorse during his surrender. Carrying both the severed head and the murder weapon, his demeanor indicates he may not be in a stable mental state."

An eyewitness recounted that as the accused roamed the streets, he was heard cursing the victim and her husband. "He shouted that he had avenged the injustices he had suffered for years. His fury was so overwhelming that no one dared to intervene, although some bystanders recorded the incident on their phones," the witness stated.

The local community is in disbelief. One resident mentioned that there had been ongoing disputes between the victim and the accused in recent days, with threats exchanged.

"However, none of us anticipated that this family conflict would culminate in such a dreadful act," a neighbor remarked.
