A deeply disturbing case has emerged from Panipat, Haryana, where police are investigating the mysterious death of a six-year-old girl during a wedding ceremony. The shocking revelation made by the police has left the community in disbelief. According to authorities, a 34-year-old woman named Poonam has confessed not only to the murder of the young girl but also to killing four children, including her own three-year-old son. During interrogation, Poonam disclosed her unsettling desire to harm children she found more attractive than her own, stating that she killed her son Shubham out of fear he would reveal her actions.

Details of the Incident

The incident reportedly took place on December 1st in Naultha village, located 15 kilometers from Panipat. During the wedding, a six-year-old girl named Vidhi was found submerged in a plastic tub under suspicious circumstances. Initially, her family believed it to be an accident, but the police found several aspects of the situation questionable. The post-mortem report raised suspicions of foul play, leading to a complaint filed by Vidhi's grandfather, Pal Singh, at the Israna police station. Reports indicate that during the search for the girl, her grandmother discovered the door to the first-floor storeroom locked from the outside. Upon opening it, she found Vidhi's face submerged in the water-filled tub. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police Investigation and Confession

Following the incident, police arrived at the scene and began questioning all attendees of the wedding. However, inconsistencies in the statements of the victim's aunt, Poonam, raised red flags. Under intense questioning, she not only admitted to Vidhi's murder but also revealed that she had previously drowned three other children in a similar manner. She confessed to killing her sister-in-law's nine-year-old daughter, Ishika, in January 2023 by submerging her in a water tank. Additionally, she disclosed that she had murdered her three-year-old son, Shubham, out of fear he would disclose her actions. In August 2024, she also drowned her six-year-old cousin, Jiya, in a tub at her maternal home. Notably, all these deaths were initially deemed accidental drownings by the family.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

Poonam was arrested on Tuesday. She has another four-year-old son, while her husband works in agriculture in Bhawar village. The police are currently assessing Poonam's mental health to determine if she suffers from any psychological disorders.
