AIADMK Condemns Violent Assault on Migrant Worker

Chennai: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Workers' Rights Retrieval Kazhagam has vehemently criticized the 'brutal attack' on a migrant worker from Odisha in Tiruttani, Tamil Nadu, attributing the incident to the DMK government's failure to address the escalating issues of drug abuse and lawlessness in the region.

O. Panneerselvam, the AIADMK founder and former Chief Minister, expressed that the shocking assault, where a group of teenagers allegedly attacked a man with sickles, has deeply disturbed the public's conscience.

He emphasized that this incident highlights the severe infiltration of drug abuse within society, especially among the youth.

Panneerselvam remarked, "The fact that four minors could engage in such a horrific act while under the influence of narcotics illustrates how Tamil Nadu has become increasingly permissive towards drug culture."

He criticized the DMK administration for its inability to control the narcotics crisis, warning that this situation poses a significant threat to public safety and social stability.

Describing the event as 'deeply troubling,' he called on Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to take the matter seriously and implement immediate corrective actions.

"The government must prioritize the protection of youth from drug addiction and enforce strict penalties against those involved in drug trafficking," he stated, stressing the need for awareness initiatives and rigorous law enforcement to avert similar occurrences.

The attack took place on the evening of December 26 near the railway quarters adjacent to the Tiruttani railway station in Tiruvallur district.

According to law enforcement, four 17-year-old boys allegedly assaulted the migrant worker from Odisha with sickles.

The attackers reportedly filmed the assault on their mobile devices and subsequently shared the video on social media, inciting widespread outrage.

Local residents alerted the police, who quickly arrived at the scene and provided assistance to the injured man, who was then transported to a hospital for medical care.

The victim sustained serious injuries during the attack. The police have since apprehended the four minors involved and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crime, including the potential influence of narcotics. Authorities have promised strict legal action.
