Shocking Allegations: Kolkata Law College Students Arrested in Gang-Rape Case
Details of the Arrests
Kolkata: Authorities have apprehended three individuals linked to the alleged gang-rape of a female student at a law college in the city. According to police reports, these suspects had meticulously planned the assault.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT), consisting of nine members, has uncovered that the accused—Monojit Mishra, Pratim Mukherjee, and Zaid Ahmed—had previously engaged in sexually harassing female students at the institution.
The fourth individual involved is identified as the college's security guard.
Investigators revealed that the trio recorded their harassment on mobile devices, subsequently using the footage to blackmail their victims.
"This was a premeditated act. The suspects had been scheming for several days to inflict harm on the victim. Evidence suggests that the primary accused targeted her from the moment she enrolled in the college," stated a police officer.
Kolkata Police are actively searching for mobile videos that may have been recorded by the suspects.
"Search operations were conducted at the homes of Mukherjee and Ahmed on Sunday. We are seeking footage related to this incident and potentially others," the officer added.
Authorities are also investigating whether a video of the alleged gang-rape, which occurred on June 25, was disseminated among other groups.
"We are attempting to determine if these clips were shared further. If so, we will need to contact those who received them," the officer explained.
The SIT has compiled a list of over 25 individuals, primarily students from South Calcutta Law College, who were present at the campus on the evening of June 25.
"All these individuals will be interviewed as part of the investigation to ascertain what they observed that night," the officer noted.
The incident reportedly involved a female student from South Calcutta Law College, who was allegedly gang-raped by three individuals, including an alumnus and two current students.
