Legal Action Over Defamation

Karachi: Nauman Niaz, a prominent cricket historian and television figure, has issued a legal notice to former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar for allegedly defaming him.

The notice, sent through his attorney, follows Shoaib's remarks where he referred to Dr. Niaz as a 'kit man' during his tenure with the national team.

Shoaib stated on a podcast, 'Dr. Nauman primarily carried our bags and luggage for us in the team.'

Dr. Niaz had previously worked as a data analyst for the Pakistan cricket team during several tours when Shoaib was an active player.

Shoaib criticized the contributions of coaches and managers, asserting that Dr. Niaz's role was limited to transporting players' bags.

He remarked, 'That is what he did in the team. I’m not aware of any other contributions he made.'

The legal notice demands an unconditional apology from Shoaib within 14 days, failing which he may face legal repercussions and claims for damages.

This isn't the first time the two have clashed; during Imran Khan's administration, Dr. Niaz had previously asked Shoaib to exit a live broadcast on PTV following a minor disagreement.

After a minister's intervention, Shoaib received an apology from Dr. Niaz, and they appeared to have resolved their differences.
