Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan attended the 110th Jayanti celebration of Jagadguru Dr. Rajendra Mahaswami at the Suttur Mutt in Mysore. During his address, Minister Chouhan called for national unity on issues of national interest and urged citizens to rise above political differences. Chouhan expressed, 'I want to make a request; while there are ideological political differences, the entire nation should unite on matters of national interest. Some leaders are behaving like dictators, creating crises for the entire world. In such a situation, I boldly state that if anyone can show the path to eternal peace amidst the flames of materialism, it will be our India, our country. There is no other way, so it is crucial for our nation to remain strong. Our country should strive to set a direction for the world. Therefore, I do not wish to delve into the details of the challenges India faces today, but our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made an appeal.'
Referring to recent global economic pressures, including tariffs, Chouhan reiterated Prime Minister Modi's call to instill patriotism across the nation. He urged every Indian to commit to using only indigenous products to strengthen the economy. He stated, 'In the current crisis, with tariffs being imposed, there should be a spirit of patriotism awakened throughout the country. Every Indian should pledge to use only those products that are made in our country. It is essential for our nation's economy to be robust. I am confident that the citizens will create a new history in this direction.'

On Wednesday, a 50 percent tariff was imposed on imports from India to the United States. This came after a draft notice published by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), stating that the order would take effect from August 27. According to the notice, these additional charges are being implemented to enforce Executive Order 14329, titled 'Addressing Threats Posed by the Government of the Russian Federation to the United States,' issued by the President on August 6, 2025. This order established a new tariff rate on goods imported from India. This action follows President Donald Trump's announcement to increase tariffs on Indian goods to 50 percent.
