Shivam Dube Poised for Key Role in India's T20 World Cup Semi-Final
Dube's Impact in the Upcoming Match
Mumbai, March 5: Shivam Dube's former coach, Satish Samant, has expressed confidence in the all-rounder's significant contribution during India's semi-final match against England at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
In addition to Dube, Samant believes that captain Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Tilak Varma will also shine, as they are well-acquainted with the pitch conditions from their time with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
"The Mumbai Indians players are more familiar with this surface due to extensive practice here. With Hardik in the lineup and Suryakumar leading as captain, Shivam's role is crucial," Samant stated.
Dube has emerged as a key player for India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, particularly noted for his ability to handle pressure in the middle order. He has accumulated 166 runs in 7 matches, averaging 33.20 with an impressive strike rate of 156.60.
However, his bowling performance has raised concerns, as he has only claimed five wickets with an economy rate of 13.28 across the tournament.
Samant also shared insights on the pitch conditions ahead of the match, suggesting that the surface may offer extra bounce, which could benefit fast bowlers early in the innings. He recommended that India should choose to bowl first if they win the toss, as dew could significantly impact the game at Wankhede.
"Reflecting on the semifinal match we observed yesterday, the pitch might behave similarly to how it did for New Zealand. There could be additional bounce, which typically favors fast bowlers," he noted.
"If India wins the toss, opting to bowl first is essential, especially during this season when dew becomes a factor, making it challenging for bowlers to defend a large total," he concluded.
