Clarification from Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs
On June 16, Anil Desai, a member of the Shiv Sena (UBT), dismissed rumors suggesting that several party MPs were considering joining the faction led by Eknath Shinde. He emphasized that there is no pressure on the party's MPs and confirmed their loyalty to Uddhav Thackeray's leadership. Speaking to a news outlet, Desai stated, 'There is nothing of that sort. Uddhav Ji regularly calls meetings, and all MPs have expressed their trust in his leadership. There is absolutely no pressure on the MPs. Such claims arise from time to time, but they are baseless.'
Context of the Statement
This statement comes amidst reports from Maharashtra indicating that seven out of nine UBT MPs were in contact with Shinde's faction and were contemplating joining it, a situation referred to as 'Operation Tiger.' Earlier, on Tuesday, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut also refuted claims that five of their MPs intended to form a separate group. He labeled these reports as false and reiterated support for party leader Uddhav Thackeray.
Raut's Press Conference Insights
During a press conference, Raut declared, 'This is a lie. We have no such information.' He noted that just four days prior, all these MPs participated in a meeting convened by Uddhav Thackeray, expressing their confidence in his leadership. Some leaders even vowed to support Uddhav by swearing on their loved ones. These statements come at a time when speculation about potential dissent within Shiv Sena (UBT) and the possibility of some MPs leaving the party is circulating.
Rejection of Further Rumors
Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC also dismissed rumors suggesting that their party was attempting to recruit leaders from opposing political groups. She stated, 'We have no interest in breaking any party. Everyone has witnessed Eknath Shinde's popularity, as he is dedicated to the common people and works at the grassroots level. He does not operate from home.'
