Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, extended her congratulations to Suvendu Adhikari, who took the oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday. Following the Indian National Congress's victory in the West Bengal assembly elections, the Awami League of Bangladesh also shared a letter congratulating Adhikari. In her message, Hasina expressed her best wishes for the health and success of the newly elected Chief Minister and all members of his cabinet.

Suvendu Adhikari, known as the 'killer of giants' for defeating Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur, took the oath as Chief Minister after leading the BJP to a historic victory in the state. Newly elected BJP legislators, including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Khudiram Tudu, and Nishit Pramanik, also took their oaths as ministers in the cabinet led by Adhikari at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.
Historic Oath Ceremony
Adhikari's oath-taking ceremony coincided with the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. In the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections, the BJP achieved a remarkable victory by winning 207 out of 294 seats, marking the end of the Trinamool Congress's 15-year rule, while the TMC secured 80 seats.
