Tharoor's Praise for Suryavanshi

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has drawn a parallel between the cricketing prowess of 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi and that of the iconic Sachin Tendulkar. Tharoor has called on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider Suryavanshi for the national team.

"The last time we witnessed such extraordinary talent at fourteen, it was Sachin Tendulkar, and we all know his remarkable journey. What are we waiting for? Vaibhav Suryavanshi for India!" Tharoor expressed on X, tagging Gautam Gambhir, BCCI, Sachin Tendulkar, and Ajit Agarkar in his post.

Record-Breaking Performance in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Suryavanshi made headlines with a record-setting performance during the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 Plate League match against Arunachal Pradesh on December 24. He became the youngest player (14 years and 272 days) to score a century in men's List A cricket, achieving this milestone in just 36 balls, marking the third-fastest century for India in this format.

This match was Suryavanshi's seventh List A appearance, having debuted against Madhya Pradesh earlier in December 2025. He also broke the record for the fastest 150 in men's List A cricket, reaching this mark in 59 balls, surpassing AB de Villiers' previous record of 64 balls set against the West Indies in 2015.

Suryavanshi concluded his innings with an impressive 190 runs off 84 balls, including 16 fours and 15 sixes, boasting a remarkable strike rate of 226.19.

Bihar's Historic Victory

In the match between Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh, Suryavanshi's phenomenal 190 runs, alongside his captain Sakibul Jani's explosive 128* off 40 balls (featuring 10 fours and 12 sixes), contributed to a historic team performance. Ayush Loharuka also made a significant impact with 116 runs off 56 balls (11 fours and 8 sixes), leading Bihar to a staggering total of 574/6, the highest in List A cricket history.

Arunachal Pradesh struggled in response, collapsing to 177 all out in 42.1 overs, resulting in a crushing defeat by 398 runs.
