Congress Celebrates 140 Years of Legacy

New Delhi: During the celebration of the Congress party's 140th Foundation Day at their headquarters in New Delhi on Sunday, Shashi Tharoor echoed the sentiments of fellow party member Digvijaya Singh, emphasizing the need to bolster the organization.

Tharoor was present alongside Singh at the event held at Indira Bhawan.

Singh stirred discussions on Saturday by praising the organizational strength of the RSS-BJP, sharing an old photograph of Narendra Modi, and highlighting how a grassroots worker ascended to the roles of chief minister and prime minister through dedication to their leaders.

He also stressed the importance of reinforcing the Congress structure at the grassroots level, which he believes is essential for challenging the ruling BJP and removing them from power.

In response to Singh's comments, Tharoor stated, "There is no doubt that the organization needs to be strengthened."

When asked about their conversation while seated together, Tharoor remarked, "We are friends and frequently discuss various topics."

"The 140th foundation day of the Congress is a significant occasion for us. It allows us to reflect on our remarkable history and the contributions we've made to the nation," he added.

In a post on X, he noted, "Today marks the 140th anniversary of the Indian National Congress, an organization that was crucial in leading India's fight for independence from British rule."

"Since its inception in 1885, the party has been a fundamental part of the nation's democratic journey and political development. The event was filled with solemnity and camaraderie at Indira Bhawan today," Tharoor concluded.
