Tharoor's Remarks on India's Position
K Congress MP Shashi Tharoor stated on Saturday that New Delhi is not interested in engaging in war, while Pakistan resorts to cross-border terrorism to achieve its strategic objectives. Tharoor is leading a multi-party delegation aimed at presenting India's stance against terrorism sponsored by Pakistan.
Tharoor's Statement in New York
Speaking to the media at the Indian Consulate in New York, Tharoor remarked, 'We have no interest in war with Pakistan. We would prefer to focus on boosting our economy and advancing our people into the 21st century. Unfortunately, while we may be a stabilizing force for the Pakistanis, they are not. They desire territory controlled by India and are willing to go to any lengths to obtain it. If they cannot achieve this through conventional means, they are prepared to resort to terrorism, which is unacceptable to us.'
Terrorism as a Global Issue
Upon arriving in the United States, Tharoor's delegation visited the 9/11 memorial site to express solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attacks. He emphasized that the delegation's visit serves as a reminder that terrorism is a shared challenge for both India and the U.S.
He added, 'This was certainly a very poignant moment for us, but it also aimed to convey a strong message that we are in a city still bearing the scars of a brutal terrorist attack. We came as a reminder that this is a common issue, and we stand in solidarity with the victims, including Indians. It is a global problem, and we must unite to combat it.'
Tharoor on the Pahalgam Attack
Discussing the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, Tharoor stated, 'Within an hour of this atrocity, a group called the Resistance Front claimed responsibility. The Resistance Front is considered a front organization for the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the U.N. India had approached the U.N. sanctions committee regarding the Resistance Front in 2023 and 2024, and unfortunately, action was taken only in 2025, after they reiterated their claim the following day.'
