Watson's Admiration for Abhishek Sharma

Shane Watson, the former Australian all-rounder, has expressed his admiration for India's dynamic opener, Abhishek Sharma, describing his batting style as a 'delight to watch.'

Currently ranked as the top T20I batter globally, Abhishek has been a key player for India, showcasing a diverse range of shots including scoops, flicks, pulls, drives, and powerful hits that often send the ball soaring into the stands.

Abhishek Sharma's Growth in T20 Cricket

Abhishek made a significant impact during IPL 2024, scoring an impressive 484 runs with a strike rate of 204.21 while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Watson noted that it has been remarkable to witness Abhishek's growth and development over the past few years.

"He's incredibly talented, isn't he? It's been a privilege to observe his progress since he first joined Sunrisers Hyderabad. His ability to adapt and excel against various bowlers in different conditions is truly impressive," Watson remarked.

Recent Performances of Abhishek Sharma

Following a standout season in the IPL, Abhishek made his international debut in Zimbabwe last year, accumulating 125 runs in five matches with a striking rate of 174.65. Although he faced challenges during the Sri Lanka tour and struggled against Bangladesh, the management remained supportive of him.

He regained his form during a five-match T20I series against England earlier this year, leading the scoring with 279 runs at an average of 55.80 and an astonishing strike rate of 219.69. Abhishek also played a crucial role in India's unbeaten run to the Asia Cup title, finishing as the top scorer with 314 runs at an average of 44.86.

Abhishek's Continued Success

Abhishek has maintained his excellent form in Australia, scoring a rapid 68 runs off just 37 balls in Melbourne, even as his teammates struggled against the Australian pace attack.

When asked how he would strategize to counter Abhishek's batting prowess, Watson humorously replied, "The best plan is to try and get him out. If not, you're in serious trouble."
