Severe Weather Hits Delhi-NCR: Rain and Strong Winds Cause Damage

On Saturday, Delhi-NCR faced unexpected weather changes, including rain and strong winds that caused significant damage to infrastructure. The Rapid Rail Metro Ashok Nagar station's shed was affected, and a traffic light pole fell in Noida. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for continued rain and thunderstorms in the region, particularly in southern states. Weather Disruptions in Delhi-NCR

On Saturday afternoon, the weather in Delhi-NCR took a sudden turn, bringing rain and strong winds to the national capital. Various areas in Noida experienced light rain, while some regions faced heavy downpours. The Meteorological Department has forecasted continued rainfall across the region over the next five days. An alert has been issued for rain and thunderstorms, particularly affecting southern states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka.


The Rapid Rail Metro Ashok Nagar station suffered damage to its shed due to the intense winds and rain. Reports indicate that metal sheets from the metro station were lifted into the air, striking a nearby vehicle and causing damage. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported during this incident, and metro staff are currently working to clear the debris.


Traffic Disruptions and Weather Alerts

In addition to the damage at Ashok Nagar, a traffic light pole collapsed at DM Chowk in Noida following the heavy rainfall in the NCR region.



The India Meteorological Department reported gusty winds across various parts of Delhi between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM IST on May 17, 2025.
