Severe Weather Conditions in Delhi

On Sunday, the weather in Delhi and its surrounding areas took a dangerous turn. A sudden storm accompanied by heavy rainfall severely impacted flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Due to poor visibility and strong winds, 15 flights had to be rerouted for safety reasons.

Flight Disruptions

According to airport sources, the affected flights included 10 domestic and 5 international services, which were redirected to airports in Jaipur and Lucknow. Airlines have advised passengers to check the latest status of their flights before heading to the airport.

Red Alert Issued for Delhi

Heavy rainfall was reported in several areas of the capital, prompting the meteorological department to issue a red alert. The department warned that strong, dust-laden winds could reach speeds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour in certain parts of the city. Additionally, there is a possibility of thunder, lightning, and intermittent moderate rainfall.

Rainfall Expected Until July 10

Recent forecasts indicate that the rainy spell in Delhi-NCR is expected to continue for several more days, with overcast skies and intermittent heavy showers likely until July 10.

Relief from Heat with Temperature Drop

On a positive note, the ongoing rainfall is expected to keep the maximum temperature in Delhi below 40 degrees Celsius, providing significant relief from the oppressive heat. On Sunday, the minimum temperature recorded was 29.2 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, due to the clear winds, the air quality index in Delhi stood at 153, which falls within the moderate range and is considered acceptable for health.
